Big Kamloops snowfalls result in an avalanche of calls to tow companies

KAMLOOPS — Once the snow flies or a cold snap hits, tow calls go up. Thanks to this week’s snowstorms, tow operators in Kamloops have been busy responding to a swell of vehicles in need.

Don’s Towing in Kamloops handles BCAA calls for the local area, and has a few tips for if your vehicle breaks down or gets stuck in winter road conditions.

“Turn your [hazard lights or four-way flashers] on immediately, and then give us a call and stay in your vehicle,” explains Don’s Towing operator Josh Phillips. “If we’re going to be any length of time, try to arrange a ride to get out of there. If you don’t feel confident with trying to get yourself out, I’d just say call us.”

The company goes out to dozens of calls each day and Phillips says in this kind of weather, it’s important to plan ahead and take your time when driving.

“Try to give us as much space as possible. People don’t choose where they break down so it’s not always the best spot. And we don’t have very much room. If you could slow down and just move over, that would be great.”
