Kamloops, Nicola Valley searchers rescue pair caught in snowy Juliet Creek misadventure
KAMLOOPS — The heavy snowfall overnight Monday to Tuesday took a pair of campers by surprise, necessitating a helping hand from search and rescue volunteers.
In a social media post, Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) says its members, along with members from Nicola Valley Search and Rescue, were called at about 2:05 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9) and headed to the Juliet Creek area between Merritt and Hope.
Two people who were on a multi-day camping trip in the back country returned to their 4×4 to find it buried in about 50 centimetres of fresh snow.
An attempt to drive out and to safety ended when the vehicle slid into the creek.
