Traffic snarled by serious collision on Coquihalla near Larson Hill

MERRITT, B.C. — UPDATE (3:25 p.m.): B.C. Emergency Health Services sent this statement to CFJC Today:

“BC Emergency Health Services receive a call at 11:29 a.m. today about a motor vehicle incident on the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) about 41 kilometres south of Merritt. An air ambulance, two ambulances and a supervisor responded. Paramedics cared for and transported one patient to hospital in stable condition,” said Paramedic Public Information Officer, Brian Twaites.

BCEHS does not comment on potential fatalities in highway collisions.

EARLIER: Traffic on the Coquihalla Highway was choked Monday afternoon (Jan. 8) northbound between Merritt and Hope around Larson Hill after a serious collision.

Social media posts show a collision between a semi truck and a pickup truck at that location.

Authorities have yet to release any information on the crash.

Drive BC says heavy delays are expected throughout Monday afternoon.

A travel advisory remains in effect for the Coquihalla due to expected heavy snowfall.
