Operation Red Nose Kamloops gave more than 500 rides home

KAMLOOPS–Operation Red Nose has reined it in for the 27th year in Kamloops.

In thirteen nights between Nov. 24 and Dec. 31, 512 rides were given by 92 volunteers.

Elsa Poppleton, coordinator for Operation Red Nose Kamloops, believes the campaign received the same support, despite seeing more rides last year.

“Our numbers are down,–just simply because we did three less nights, this year,” said Poppleton.

“We also only operated Fridays and Saturdays rather than the Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays. So we were really able to focus on the busy nights on the Fridays and Saturdays of Christmas parties, and then New Year’s Eve as well was super busy. We had lots of rides and the phones were quite literally ringing off the hook.”

All proceeds collected in Kamloops support local athletes through Pacific Sport.

According to Poppleton, a final tally for this year’s donations won’t be ready until next week, but she has high hopes for the Tournament Capital.

“Kamloops is always typically number one in B.C.,” she said.

“There are a number of other communities in the province, and so we’re hoping we can hold that, but we won’t know those numbers for another couple of days.”
