Celebration of Life planned for TRU WolfPack’s Owyn McInnis

KAMLOOPS — Next Wednesday, the Thompson Rivers University Athletic Department plans to hold a Celebration of Life for Owyn McInnis, the WolfPack men’s volleyball player who was killed in a tragic motor vehicle incident back in late November.

“On Wednesday, January 10th at 4:00 pm, we are doing a Celebration of Life in the TCC here,” TRU WolfPack Athletic Director Curtis Atkinson tells CFJC Today. “We’re very fortunate that the [City of Kamloops] created that opportunity for us. We thought it would be fitting to do it on and around Owyn’s home court.”

Atkinson says the whole TRU athletic department has felt the support from the community throughout this incredibly difficult time. He says the Celebration of Life is open to all members of the Kamloops community and wants to make everyone welcome at the event.

“We hope that members of the community come on Wednesday,” Atkinson says. “Some of Owyn’s family will be here, his fiance will be here to be part of the Celebration of Life, and I think it would be nice to continue to see and feel that support heading into our first home weekend after the break, next week. It will be an emotional time, and people kind of standing by us and being with us will help to elevate us.”
