No fireworks this New Year’s Eve: City of Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has announced via Twitter (X) that fireworks will be prohibited in the city for New Year’s Eve as no permits will be issued.

The city had previously announced it was mulling over the decision in early December.

At the time, Assistant Fire Chief Scott Johnson stated the dangers of fireworks-caused fires linger and are easily preventable.

“Even though we are into the late fall, the vegetation in our area remains drought-stressed, dry and primed to burn,” said Johnson. “We do not want to jeopardize our community’s safety due to an errant firework or debris fallout.”

Pyrotechnical devices are prohibited unless an appropriate permit says otherwise, under Fire Prevention Bylaw No. 10-37.

Residents may be fined $250 for using, possessing, storing or selling unauthorized fireworks.
