Kamloops homicide victims Satow, Donovan memorialized in Vancouver vigil

KAMLOOPS — Two Kamloops murder victims were among the women honoured at a silent vigil in downtown Vancouver Wednesday (Dec. 27).

The vigil, put together by Vancouver Rape Relief (VRR), was meant to draw attention to violence against women and honoured a total of 14 women killed by men in B.C. in 2023.

Participants carried signs bearing the names, ages and dates of death for the women.

Fifty-seven-year-old Jo-Anne Donovan was killed in March. Her body was found a short distance from her home in Westsyde.

In May, Chaneille Satow, 39, was shot to death in a home on Valhalla Drive. Her identity was not made public until it was included in an RCMP report to Kamloops council earlier this month.

“Jo-Anne and Chaneill (sic) deserve justice,” said VRR spokesperson Hilla Kerner in a news release. “Their killers must be held accountable. Femicide is deadly male violence against women. It is a serious issue that must be exposed and highlighted as part of our efforts to stop it.”

No one has been charged in either homicide.

There have been four homicides in the Kamloops area so far in 2023. In addition to Donovan and Satow, RCMP are also investigating the deaths of Peter Casimir and Mark Hoffman.
