Mounties warn of scam circulating Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops RCMP is warning the public about a scam circulating locally, featuring threats and gruesome images.
In just more than a week, local police have responded to at least two reports from residents who received a text message and threats from someone who claimed to be a member of the cartel. In both cases, the scam was identified before anyone was defrauded.
“The wording and circumstances surrounding the scam may differ slightly, but include the common claims of being part of the cartel, a demand for payment, and threats of harm accompanied by images depicting graphic violence,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson.
The fraud is known to police and has circulated in other parts of the country as well as in Kamloops previously.
