KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has been awarded $12.6 million from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program toward the third and final phase of the Tranquille Sanitary Sewer Upgrade Project, expected to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2027.

The critical sewer trunk main along Tranquille Road extends from Aviation Way to Twelfth Street. It serves 39,000 people and is nearing the end of its life, needing replacement and increased capacity.

Of the $12.6 million from Infrastructure Canada, the federal share will account for $6.9 million, with the province providing the remaining $5.8 million. The city will be responsible for the remaining costs, such as transportation, aesthetic components, taxation and debt.

Phase One of the project from North Primary Lift Station to Crestline Street was completed in 2017, and Phase Two from Southill Street to Twelfth Street was completed in 2021. Improvements included sanitary main replacements, upgrades to pedestrian paths, landscaping and intersections.
