CSRD prepares three outdoor ice rinks, needs to see colder weather

SALMON ARM — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is preparing for the construction and use of three outdoor ice rinks. However, colder temperatures are vital for their proper operation.

The rinks are:

• Farrell’s Field on 5051 Meadow Creek Road, Celista
• Silver Creek Community Park on 1577 Salmon River Road, Silver Creek
• Parson Community Park on 3612 Hwy 95, Parson

Due to budgeting and weather, there will be no outdoor rink constructed at Sorrento-Blind Bay Park this season.

The operation of the rinks will be entirely dependent on cold and icy conditions, and they may close without notice.

Indicators to a possible closing include:

• Rainy conditions
• Temperatures above freezing (0 Celsius)
• Overnight temperatures lower than -7 C for several days in a row

Regular maintenance on the rinks will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Due to staff availability, all rink status updates might not be posted on the website or social media. Trespassing and utilizing the rink when closed can lead to personal injury and damage to the surface.
