KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University students in Kamloops, Williams Lake or through Open Learning, who pursue select healthcare programs are eligible for Priority Health grants of up to $5,000 per program year.

In a release issued Wednesday (Dec. 13), TRU announced students in these programs can receive between $2,000 to $5,000 toward their studies.

These programs include Open Learning’s Medical Lab Assistant Certificate program and the in-person Respiratory Therapy Diploma program. No assessment is required to receive the grant.

Indigenous prospective students for the Practical Nursing Diploma program in Williams Lake or the Master of Nursing — Nurse Practitioner program in Kamloops can receive anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000 in grants.

TRU has expended $500,000 since the Priority Health grants launched this fall.

Student Awards and Financial Aid Director Gordon Down stated as soon as the students are admitted and enrolled into their program, they’ll receive a $2,000 credit to their account.

“With the market being where it’s at in terms of career opportunities, combined with the opportunity to get thousands of dollars per year off of your education, it’s probably never been a better time to consider these programs,” added Down.

Program applications are now open for fall 2024.
