WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Donations are now open for a newly established $1 million endowment campaign at Thompson Rivers University’s Williams Lake campus.

The fund was organized in October and aims to make education more accessible for students in the community.

Mark and Sally Nairn kickstarted the fund by pledging $100,000 during TRU’s Williams Lake gala this fall, with an additional $33,966 raised throughout the evening.

Over the past eight years, over $200,000 have been raised at the gala, with funds being distributed to scholarships, awards and bursaries.

Mark Nairn stated the endowment will ensure long-term financial sustainability for student support by generating yearly interest.

“The reason we picked $1 million as our goal is that it should generate about $40,000 a year that will be used for bursaries to support students in need coming to our campus,” said Nairn.

The fund is still far from its $1-million goal, however, the Nairns are encouraging others to step up for the students of Williams Lake.
