Heavy rainfall expected to pour over Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt
MERRITT, B.C. — Travellers on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt will need to temporarily adjust from driving through heavy snow to dealing with heavy rain.
In a special weather statement online, Environment Canada says between 30 to 60 millimetres of rainfall is expected to pour on to the stretch of Highway 5 from Monday (Dec. 4) night until Tuesday morning.
The weather agency says light snow mixed with rain will begin late Monday morning, then gradually intensify to heavy rain Monday evening and continue through Tuesday morning. The heavy rainfall is expected to increase the risk of flooding and landslides.
It’s due to an atmospheric river setting up over B.C.’s south coast Monday.
