Rustad to make first appearance in Kamloops as BC Conservative Leader Friday

KAMLOOPS — While the official election is not until October 2024, and the writ has by no means been dropped in B.C., politicians have been unofficially on the campaign trail for months.

Earlier in the Fall, BC United Leader Kevin Falcon stopped in Kamloops to announce a slate of candidates for the region including local incumbents Peter Milobar and Todd Stone.

On Friday, for the first time since crossing the floor and becoming leader of the BC Conservatives John Rustad will stop in the Tournament Capital to rally support for B.C.’s new fourth party.

His visit comes on the heels of his party’s announcement of their climate plan, where the leader stated that the changing climate is real, and being impacting by humans.

“However, British Columbians are not facing an existential threat from our changing climate. It isn’t a crisis. In fact, our changing climate is not the most pressing issue facing us in BC or around the world,” said Rustad earlier this week in Victoria. “The Conservative Party of BC will not go down the rabbit hole of over-taxation, hype, scare-tactics and false promises. Our climate approach will be about safeguarding BC’s future and fighting tooth and nail to make life more affordable for everyday, hardworking British Columbians.”

Thanks in part to the surging popularity of the Federal Conservatives, Rustad has the Tories in a prime position to shake up the political landscape in B.C., currently polling neck and neck with BC United, with both parties trailing the governing NDP.

While the BC United incumbents are acclaimed to seek re-election, the Conservatives, NDP and Green’s have not named candidates in the two Kamloops ridings.
