KAMLOOPS — A quartet of sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) will run for re-election under the BC United banner in 2024.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Oct. 10) morning, BC United Leader Kevin Falcon announced Lorne Doerkson, Peter Milobar, Todd Stone and Jackie Tegart will be four of the party’s candidates for re-election in the Kamloops area.

The next B.C. general election is scheduled for October 2024 and will be the first with redrawn provincial boundaries. Milobar will run in the new Kamloops Centre riding while Stone will run in the altered Kamloops-North Thompson riding. Doerkson and Tegart will run in the altered Cariboo-Chilcotin and Fraser-Nicola ridings respectively.

“We are thrilled to have such an outstanding team of individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication throughout their careers,” Falcon states. “With their collective experience and expertise, I am fully confident in their ability to continue delivering results for British Columbians on the issues that matter most like affordability, health care, public safety, and tackling mental health and addictions issues.”

Stone and Tegart are the two longest-tenured sitting BC United, formerly known as BC Liberals, MLAs of the four candidates, having represented Kamloops-South Thompson and Fraser-Nicola respectively since 2013. Milobar was first elected in Kamloops-North Thompson in 2017 while Doerkson was first elected in Cariboo Chilcotin in 2020.

While an announcement on the candidate for the newly drawn Salmon Arm-Shuswap riding – which covers most of current Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo’s district – was omitted, BC United states more candidates across the province will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
