Public meeting scheduled to seek accountability after ‘Shuswap Firestorm’
CELISTA – As part of efforts to seek accountability and address concerns after a wildfire devastated the North Shuswap, Aread F Director Jay Simpson has scheduled a public meeting for November 23 at 7 p.m. at the North Shuswap Community Hall.
During the meeting, Jim Cooperman will present results of his research and evidence gathered to date. According to him, a back burn ignited by the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) was the cause of the devastation that led to the loss of hundreds of structures.
“You have been all involved in the aftermath of the Shuswap Firestorm and we all share similar concerns about how all levels of government failed our community regarding the fire,” Cooperman said on his invitation to the meeting. “My complaint to the Forest Practices Board and the subsequent investigation is just the first step in seeking accountability for the disaster that was totally avoidable. The next step will be to deliver six complaints to these agencies that have the power to investigate the government.”
During the meeting, complaints will be officially submitted giving the attendees the opportunity to sign them, as a collective community support.
