KAMLOOPS — It’s that time of year again. Snow is returning to high-altitude highways in parts of British Columbia as a slow moving arctic front is expected to bring freezing levels down to highway levels.

Environment Canada is warning the Coquihalla highway between Merritt and Kamloops, could see snow through Tuesday.

The national weather agency says snow will begin Monday (Oct. 23) afternoon and continue through Monday evening. In a special weather statement, Environment Canada warns motorists could experience heavy snowfall conditions at times, resulting in up to 10 cm of snow by the evening.

It also says a low pressure system will move into the area after the storm has passed and could deliver more snow to the area on Tuesday.

While the primary focus of the weather system will be the Coquihalla, other highway passes could see a few centimetres of snow as well. That includes Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.

Separate highway weather warnings have also been issued for other interior highways as far east as the Kootenays and as far north as Valemount.
