Kamloops Fire Rescue asking public to be cautious after West End grassfire
KAMLOOPS — In the wake of the recent grass fire on the West End Wednesday (April 20), Kamloops Fire Rescue are calling on the public to be careful.
This comes after propane and pieces of camping equipment were found at the site of the fire. Because there was little-to-no rain in the month of March, the fire and rescue service believe more fires can be an ongoing problem if people aren’t careful enough.
“Even a little bit of rainfall doesn’t really absorb into the ground,” Fire Chief Ken Uzeloc told CFJC Today. “We really need everyone in Kamloops to be very cautious with what you’re doing. Smoking materials, everything. Just really watch what you’re doing and hopefully we will get a usual May and June dump of rain to really soak the ground and help us out for the summer.”
