KAMLOOPS — Fences will be going up at 377 Tranquille Rd. as preliminary work on demolishing the former Northbridge Hotel is set to begin later this month.

In a news release issued Tuesday (March 21), the City of Kamloops says much of the work on the six-month project will be removing debris and hazardous material from the building. The city says there will be little impact to surrounding North Shore neighbourhoods for the first four months, and security will remain on site to ensure no one enters the building when crews from Clearview Demolition remove hazardous material.

“It’s extremely important that no one other than the professional abatement and demolition contractors enter the building or site during abatement and demolition,” Matt Kachel, City of Kamloops’ capital projects manager says. “We know this building contains hazardous materials, such as asbestos. While this work poses no health risk to anyone outside the building, proper precautions need to be taken inside. The contractor will erect fences to define their work zone, and it’s important that people respect that boundary.”

Residents can expect traffic impacts on Tranquille Road once demolition of the structure begins. The city says closures and traffic pattern changes will be made available at that point.
