Possible gun sighting draws police into Kamloops downtown; complaint not substantiated
KAMLOOPS — RCMP say a brief, high-visibility presence in downtown Kamloops Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 1) was the result of a weapons complaint that turned out to be unsubstantiated.
In a news release, detachment spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn says just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP were informed of a man pushing a shopping cart in the 400-block of Lansdowne Street with what appeared to be a gun.
Mounties rushed to the area and conducted extensive patrols, but no one was located matching the description. There were no other similar complaints made.
“We have received a number of inquiries about a possible lockdown in the area and want to advise the public that the weapon’s report appears unsubstantiated at this time,” said Evelyn.
