KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University WolfPack basketball is back in action at the Tournament Capital Centre this weekend, as the UBC Thunderbirds come to town to take on the WolfPack.

The WolfPack women are coming off a pair of losses against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies last weekend in Saskatoon.

UBC won both games they played against the Brandon Bobcats last weekend, and sit with seven wins and three losses on the season.

TRU Head Coach Todd Warnick will look for continued growth from his team as they take on another tough opponent.

“The expectations are the same as they’ve been every weekend: learn and grow,” Warnick tells CFJC Sports. “Ultimately, we’re looking to take those lessons we learned against Saskatchewan, that we were taught, in terms of consistency and intensity and bring those forward, and continue to grow in the right direction. This is Year Zero in terms of our development process, and so wins are secondary to the growth of each individual student-athlete and the growth of the culture of our team.”

The WolfPack men’s team comes into the weekend riding a five-game winning streak in Canada West action.

The ‘Pack and the Thunderbirds have identical 5-and-5 records. According to WolfPack men’s head coach Scott Clark, that’s where the similarities between the two teams end.

“We have to be able to compete and play hard but maintain our composure, and I think composure will be a key factor this week,” Clark explains. “They’re quite a bit different than us. They’re older, a more veteran group, deeper and quite physical.”

The WolfPack and Thunderbirds face off on the TCC on both Friday (Jan. 13) and Saturday nights. Tip-off for the women’s games is at 5:30 pm, while the men’s game gets underway at 7:30 pm.
