KAMLOOPS — A break-in suspect was taken to hospital and a man was arrested after a reported assault on the North Shore Tuesday (Jan 10) night. In a news release issued Wednesday morning, Kamloops RCMP say they responded to the 600-block of Fortune Drive at around 7:45 p.m. for a break-and-enter report, followed up by an assault.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn states the assault appeared to have started inside a home and worked its way outside. The break-in suspect was sent to hospital via ambulance with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

“Police are investigating. There was one person who did receive significant but believed to be non life-threatening injuries as a result of an assault,” said Evelyn. “That person is also a suspect in the investigation and was taken to hospital. Another person on scene was arrested for assault, taken to cells and then later released with conditions as well as a court date.”

It is not known at this time if the two individuals were known to police prior to the altercation.

RCMP were able to interview a number of witnesses but are looking for anybody else who may have been in the area. As the investigation into both men is ongoing, more charges could be forthcoming.

“We always encourage people not to make assumptions to quickly about what exactly transpired. We get called to things all the time and it is through the work of investigation where we are really able to figure out what transpired,” added Evelyn. “That is the stage we are at right now. We went to a call, there was an arrest, there was a victim. From there we are still collecting evidence to see exactly what did transpire and move that investigation along.”
