MONTREAL — Defender Aaron Herrera was acquired by CF Montreal in trade with Real Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Herrera’s arrival will help fill the void left by the departure of Canadian defender Alistair Johnston, who Montreal transferred to Scotland’s Celtic earlier this month.

Real Salt Lake gets $350,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money, $150,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money,  Montreal’s natural first round pick (No. 25 overall) in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft and a 2023 international roster spot in return.

It may also retain a percentage of a future transfer fee for Herrera, should his fee meet a certain threshold.
