KAMLOOPS — On November 1, 2021, Kamloops resident Shannon White disappeared.

Kamloops RCMP and volunteers have conducted extensive searches in the days and months that followed White’s disappearance, but have not yet been able to solve the case.

On Tuesday, exactly one year after she vanished, White’s friends and family are hosting a memorial ride.

Angela Hulsman is one of White’s best friends and says the past year she’s been missing has been unbelievably hard.

She hopes to keep White’s disappearance at the top of her mind and wants to create awareness of those missing through the ride.

White’s family does not live in Kamloops so Hulsman says she’s coordinating the ride. She hopes members of the public can join in on the event to tell stories, laugh and reflect on the impact White has had on each of their lives.

“I’m just trying to keep it alive because she doesn’t have any family here.”

“It’s very important [to hold the ride] because, for her friends and family, every day is a struggle — not having answers, not knowing what’s happened, and for the general public, they may not see the effects it has on us,” Hulsman added.

“Shannon always brought all walks of life together and [for the last year] that piece is missing.”

Locals can join in on the ride at two separate spots — White’s family will be starting the ride in Kelowna at 4:00 p.m. and will drive to Kamloops.

Those who want to participate in Kamloops can meet Hulsman and others at the Aberdeen Petro-Canada Gas Station at 6:30 p.m.

More information on the ride can be found on the Shannon White memorial ride Facebook page.
