Shannon White’s family members haven’t given up on their search

KAMLOOPS — Gerald White was back in Kamloops on Saturday (May 28) to search for his missing daughter, Shannon White.

“We’ve been up there, just going through, marking off spots, taping them off, saying, ‘We’ve searched there’,” said White.

He joined a team of around 20 volunteers, and though they didn’t find anything helpful, that doesn’t mean the day wasn’t successful, according to Mike Ritcey with Kamloops K9 Search and Rescue.

“What it means is we’re making the search area smaller, so every time we go out we know where not to look,” said Ritcey.

“It’s a long, slow process but it’s close to Kamloops and we’re not going to give up. There’s lots of people out there in the community that have offered to help, and we just keep making the area smaller and smaller.”

Kamloops RCMP say they don’t have any new information on Shannon to share with the public.

“The investigation is still ongoing. I know in the early stages of an investigation our presence is very obvious, just because you don’t see us doesn’t mean there’s not work being done,” said Cst. Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for Kamloops RCMP.

“There is still lots of work being done on the investigation. It’s just not always stuff that is readily observable to the public.”

Gerald White plans to return to Kamloops for future searches. For now, he visits the “HOPE” sign in Riverside Park, and a lock he placed here a month ago as a symbol for his daughter.

“She’s a big part of our family, and there’s a big hole in our family with her missing,” said White.

“There’s a hole in my heart, and when I think of her, it’s like poking at that hole, you know? You got good memories, but you’re still poking and hurting yourself. So if anybody knows anything, please help us, because this is … this is killing us, really. So if you could help that would be awesome.”
