KAMLOOPS — An Alberta man has been released pending a court date following the collision that closed a portion of Columbia Street on Tuesday (Oct 18).

In a news release issued Tuesday morning, police say the semi truck crashed through a front yard and into a house. Additionally, police say numerous vehicles on the roadway were struck and badly damaged, but no one was injured.

The suspected driver allegedly fled from the transport truck, but was located soon after and taken into custody as part of the criminal investigation.

“The suspect was later released by police and given a court date in relation to Criminal Code driving offences, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, with charge recommendations to follow,” said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. “Although the suspect has received a court date to answer to the alleged offences, the investigational requirements are ongoing and police encourage anyone with information or video related to the incident to please reach out as soon as possible.”

Anyone in the area with security or dash cam footage that may have captured yesterday morning’s events, or who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken with police, is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-37339.
