TNRD giving away smoke alarms for Fire Prevention Week

KAMLOOPS — The Fire Protection Services division of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is marking the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week by handing out free smoke and CO2 alarms.

The First Alert Smoke and CO2 Alarms can be picked up at any TNRD library branch. They are available while supplies last until October 15.

The theme of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”

“Today’s homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes – or even less – to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds,” said TNRD Regional Fire Prevention Officer Jeremy Denny in a news release. “Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.”
