KAMLOOPS — Another charity golf tournament was teeing it up at Bighorn Golf Course in Sun Rivers. The Gur Singh Memorial Golf Tournament in support of the Kamloops Brain Injury Association held its 19th annual event.

In 2004, the late Dr. Gur Singh began the annual tournament to serve as a fundraiser for the association raising $17,000 that year. Fast forward to 2022, and the event has helped raise over 1 million.

“This is our major fundraiser every year and it is invaluable. It is what helps us pay the rent and it is what helps us be able to help brain injury survivors in the Kamloops region,” said Kamloops Brain Injury Association Executive Director Dave Johnson.

In 2014, Dr. Singh passed away and the event was named in his honour.

The association noting that without the yearly support for sponsors and golfer, they would not be able to provide the same level of services to individuals with brain injuries.

“Each survivor is different, each brain injury is different. So, the needs are always changing. With each person they are going to have something a little different. Having that financial flexibility with the donor funds, the locals are helping us out and we can get the survivors what each of them needs instead of something generic,” added Johnson.
