Driver in Nicola Lake crash still missing: Merritt RCMP

MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP are still searching for the driver whose vehicle crashed into Nicola Lake off Highway 5A.

In a news release Thursday (July 21) morning, Merritt RCMP provided a photo and an updated description of Daniel Meeker – a 41-year-old man from Douglas Lake, B.C.

Meeker was last seen on June 19, 2022, in the Nicola River near Nicola Lake. Previously, RCMP say according to witnesses, the vehicle quickly submerged, and the lone man surfaced briefly before disappearing underwater.

Meeker is described as Indigenous man with black hair and brown eyes, and standing 5’5” and weighing 150 lbs.

The investigation is still ongoing.
