MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP are searching for the driver whose vehicle crashed into Nicola Lake off Highway 5A Monday (June 20) evening.

In a news release issued Friday (June 24), RCMP say Daniel Nathan Meeker – a 42-year-old man from Douglas Lake, B.C. – is still outstanding and believed to have washed down the Nicola River toward Merritt. RCMP say according to witnesses, the vehicle quickly submerged, and the lone man surfaced briefly before disappearing underwater.

Meeker is described as Indigenous with brown hair and brown eyes, and standing 5’4” and weighing 150 lbs.

RCMP says Air Services and Nicola Valley Search and Rescue have conducted searches of the area but have not located Meeker. The Nicola River remains at a high level and flow, which RCMP says is hampering the search effort. They expect the search efforts to intensify once the river levels decrease.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information related to Meeker’s disappearance is asked to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
