COLLINS: City Council could have a different look this fall

May 8, 2022 | 6:33 AM

THE CIVIC ELECTION in October is still a few months away, but already there are signs the council table could look substantially different.

There are several names of veterans and newcomers to announce their intentions to help lead the City.

Some are proven leaders, some will be one issue fluff, and all will be convinced they are the best there’s ever been.

Some very valuable experience will be missing.

We are losing a strong leader in Mayor Ken Christian. He is the latest in a list of really good Mayors.

We will lose one, or both, of Arjun Singh and Dieter Dudy, both of whom bring a veteran presence to Council.

I am really disappointed to see that Kathy Sinclair won’t be running again. One of the bright young lights on Council, I thought her potential had a big upside. I understand why she feels like it’s the time to leave, but it’s still disappointing.

Hopefully, the other bright young lights, Sadie Hunter and Mike O’Reilly, will be running again.

Not that Dale Bass, Bill Sarai and Denis Walsh are lacking anything, they’re just not as young. Older lights, you might say.

My sense of humour tells me it’s like comparing LED headlights with standard headlights. But at my age, they would be saying my headlights are like driving lights.

Seriously, that’s a strong, balanced group of six people.

Former Councillor Nancy Bepple is going to take another run, and there will be others coming out of the woodwork shortly. They will have to if they want to gain recognition.

October 15th isn’t that far away.

I’m Doug Collins and that’s One Man’s Opinion.
