Blazers sweep Chiefs in first round of playoffs with 3-0 win

SPOKANE — The Kamloops Blazers are moving on to the second round of the WHL Playoffs after their 3-0 win over the Spokane Chiefs Friday (April 29).

In game four on the road, the Blazers managed to shut out the Chiefs to sweep the series 4-0.

Logan Stankoven added to his series total scoring all three of the Blazers’ goals securing a hat-trick. Stankoven had 13 points in four games meaning he averaged over three points per game throughout the series.

Blazers goalie Dylan Garand made every save on the Chiefs’ 20 shots in the game. Friday’s win was Garand’s second shutout win of the playoffs. Garand only allowed three goals in the first round against the Chiefs posting a 968 save percentage.

The Chiefs are eliminated in the loss while the Blazers advance to the second round and will likely meet with the Portland Winterhawks, who finished a sweep of the Prince George Cougars on Wednesday.

Kamloops has a week off as they prepare for their next the following weekend.
