Kamloops RCMP anti-theft operation helps net drugs, four wanted people

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say officers responding to chronic theft complaints netted a host of suspects in other criminal activities.

Last Friday (Apr. 22), frontline officers went to some Hillside Drive businesses to help with enforcement regarding ongoing thefts. Thieves had been making off with shopping carts full of stolen merchandise.

During their response, officers:

• Arrested a woman for theft. She was also wanted on a warrant out of Prince George.
• Recovered $800 from another woman who was wanted on a warrant out of the Vernon-North Okanagan area.
• Arrested a Kamloops prolific offender wanted on an outstanding warrant.
• Seized 275 grams of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine from the vehicle of a man wanted on another outstanding warrant.

“Targeting prolific offenders in an attempt to reduce property crime and to hold those responsible for it accountable, is a priority for the Kamloops RCMP Detachment,” said Supt. Syd Lecky. “Through projects like this, we hope to capture and prevent more prolific offenders from getting the chance to continue to steal from the businesses and people of Kamloops.”
