One of three protesters who spread paint at Kamloops Trans Mountain consultation sentenced
KAMLOOPS — One of three Indigenous demonstrators who disrupted a 2018 round table consultation meeting surrounding the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion has been sentenced.
On December 10, 2018, Mayuk (Nicole) Manuel and two others crashed a meeting between Justice Frank Iacobucci and Indigenous representatives at Thompson Rivers University. The three, part of the Tiny House Warriors, spread red paint on the interior and exterior of the building and scuffled with security guards. One of the three, Isha Jules, managed to enter the room where the invitation-only meetings were taking place.
In January, Manuel was convicted of mischief, assault and disturbing the peace. Monday (Mar. 14), Justice Stella Frame sentenced her to 12 months probation with conditions.
Snutekweke (Chantel) Manuel was also convicted on three counts in the incident and acquitted of a fourth. She will be sentenced on March 21.
