KAMLOOPS — Three Indigenous protestors were released from RCMP custody last night after disrupting a round table consultation meeting surrounding the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.

The meeting was being held at the Thompson Rivers University Campus Activity Centre, chaired by retired Supreme Court Justice Frank Iacobucci.

In a video shared by the group Tiny House Warriors, the demonstrators read release conditions including staying away from any Trans Mountain meetings chaired by Iacobucci, and staying away from Trans Mountain facilities.

Those arrested were identified in a Tiny House Warriors news release as Mayuk Manuel, Snutetkwe Manuel, and Isha Jules.

Kamloops RCMP say the three were arrested for assault and mischief, though as of Tuesday morning, no charges had been sworn against them.

Meantime, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) released a statement Tuesday morning saying the Kamloops demonstration raised “serious concerns”.

NRCAN says “No relationship is more important to our government than the one with Indigenous peoples.”

While the federal department says it stands “firmly behind the right to peaceful protest,” it also says “actions that could interfere with any groups (sic) ability to safely participate in this process raises serious concerns.”

The statement goes on, “Our priority is ensuring the safety and security of all participants as this process moves forward.”
