Police watchdog clears Revelstoke RCMP officer in snowmobile crash
REVELSTOKE, B.C. — B.C.’s police watchdog has cleared a Revelstoke RCMP officer after a snowmobiler was injured in a crash last month.
Just after midnight on the morning of Dec. 13, the officer noticed a man riding a snowmobile without a helmet along Highway 1 near Victoria Street.
In a news release, Independent Investigations Officer of B.C. Chief Civilian Director Ron MacDonald says the officer’s dashcam showed their vehicle turning around to head in the direction of the snowmobile but did not initiate a pursuit.
Shortly after, the officer came across the riderless snowmobile, which had collided with a parked semi truck near Woodenhead Loop. The rider was found a short distance away, having walked away from the scene.
