Public schools resume in-person learning with enhanced safety protocols
KAMLOOPS – It’s back to school for most students at public schools across British Columbia today (Jan. 10).
The Christmas break was extended by a week to allow officials with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and School District 73 to establish enhanced safety plans to reduce the risk of transmission of the Omicron variant.
In a Superintendent’s Update sent to parents and caregivers Friday, the district outlined the safety measures in place for K-12 staff and students. The measures include a daily health check, mask wearing, virtual assemblies, staggered break times.
Officials say school closures may be necessary if there are not enough staff available to teach. And parents have been advised that COVID-19 exposure notices will no longer be sent, unless there are significant dips in attendance.
