Heavy snow concerns for highway motorists in regions surrounding Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – Environment Canada has issued a series of weather warnings across the province including several predicting heavy snow for mountain passes in the southern half of the province.
Over the next two days, the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, will receive 35 cm to 60 cm of snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected today (Dec. 22). Highway 3 from Princeton to Hope via Allison Pass, will receive 30 cm to 55 cm of snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected tomorrow (Dec. 23) along that route.
In addition, the national weather agency says there is a risk of freezing rain today from the Coquihalla Summit to Hope as well as Highway 3 from Princeton to Hope.
The situation is similar for regions east of Kamloops. Environment Canada is calling for 15 cm to 25 cm for Rogers Pass, 15 cm to 25 cm for the West Columbia region except for 25 cm to 35 cm over Western Sections near Malakwa, and 20 cm to 30 cm for the Kinbasket and North Columbia regions.
