KAMLOOPS — Interior Health (IH) says the COVID-19 outbreak at Overlander Senior Centre in Brocklehurst has grown by seven new cases in 24 hours.

There are now 21 cases at the facility, up from 14 cases reported on Monday. Of the 21 cases, 6 are staff and 15 are resident cases.

“Multiple rounds of asymptomatic testing in residents and staff were essential in identifying additional cases and early identification and isolation of the cases is helping to control ongoing transmission,” IH told CFJC News.

The health authority explained that the facility layout, multi bed rooms, and shared staff across the facility, the initial cases had multiple close contacts.

“We continue to see cases who were close contacts of the initially identified cases,” Interior Health said, adding that all outbreak control measures are in place and all the cases are isolating to prevent further transmission of infection.

The outbreak was first declared on Sept. 20.

Currently, there are outbreaks at two other Kamloops health facilities — Kamloops Seniors Village and The Hamlets at Westsyde.
