Businesses want downtown patio extension

Council to consider extending licences for patio extensions

KAMLOOPS — One of the interesting discussion items at Tuesday’s council meeting will involve patio extensions on downtown sidewalks.

The patios have been in place as part of attempts to help the business community provide space during COVID-19 when indoor dining was heavily restricted.

22 locations used them this spring, and because of their popularity, the business community downtown wants them extended through next spring.

There is a cost savings in that keeping extensions in place would save having to take them down and put them up again in the spring. On the contrary, about 40 metered parking spots would be lost downtown with a loss of $60,000 in revenue.
