LYTTON, B.C. — The federal transportation minister has put a two-day stop to rail operations around the village of Lytton.

In a ministerial order issued late Thursday (July 8), Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said the stoppage is needed “in the interest of safe railway operations, and to protect public safety for the temporary return of residents to inspect their homes” in the village.

The stoppage began at 12:01 a.m. Friday and will last for a maximum of 48 hours.

There are exemptions for emergency fire response, for maintenance and repair work, and for trains already in the area to leave.
