Wildfire north of Cache Creek being held at 4.5 hectares
KAMLOOPS — The Pioneer Creek wildfire northwest of Cache Creek, adjacent to Highway 97, is no longer out of control.
Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald said the fire grew from approximately two hectares in size to 4.5 hectares since it emerged Tuesday (June 15), but that it’s due to more accurate mapping from B.C. Wildfire Service. She said the cause is undetermined but under investigation.
“Today we’ll have seven personnel responding,” MacDonald said. “Wildfires are active work sites for our staff, so a reminder to stay cautious when nearby and to avoid going to the site.”
B.C. Wildfire Service said the Pioneer Creek wildfire is a surface fire mainly burning in flashy grass fuels, and no structures are threatened. Anyone who spots a wildfire can contact 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cellphone.
