KAMLOOPS — Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone has endorsed Kevin Falcon to be the next leader of the B.C. Liberal Party.

“I know the hard work that lies ahead for the next leader, and I believe Kevin has what it takes to lead both the party and the province through these challenging times,” Stone stated. “Kevin will champion big, bold ideas. [He is] someone with a vision for British Columbia that propels us forward. Someone who won’t just settle for an economic recovery, but actually thinks about building for our next generation. He will recruit the next generation of young, diverse, passionate candidates to help him implement [his] vision for B.C.”

Stone was first elected to the legislature in 2013 and was a candidate in the 2018 B.C. Liberal leadership election, finishing fourth. He served as Minister of Transportation from 2013 to 2017 and is currently the opposition critic for jobs, economic recovery and innovation.

Falcon announced his candidacy on May 17. The former Surrey-Cloverdale MLA (2001-2013) was the runner-up to former premier Christy Clark in the 2011 B.C. Liberal leadership election.

Stone joined Surrey-White Rock MLA Trevor Halford, Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris, and Delta South MLA Ian Paton in endorsing Falcon to be the next B.C. Liberal leader. Falcon has also been endorsed by Dianne Watts, former Surrey mayor and runner-up in the 2018 B.C. Liberal leadership election.

So far, there are three other declared candidates for the B.C. Liberal leadership race: businessperson Gavin Dew, Vancouver-Langara MLA Michael Lee, and Skeena MLA Ellis Ross.

The B.C. Liberal Party will vote for their new leader between February 3 and 5, 2022. Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Peter Milobar says he will remain neutral in the leadership race.
