Council approves outdoor fitness classes to take place in Kamloops parks and green spaces
KAMLOOPS — Fitness classes can take place at some Kamloops parks and green spaces for a year.
Council unanimously approved a notice of motion brought forth by Councillors Sadie Hunter and Kathy Sinclair to open a designated area in each of up to six parks and/or green spaces throughout the City of Kamloops for access to fitness classes run by appropriately insured professional organizations.
Hunter said during Tuesday’s (May 18) council meeting that it’s similar to an existing outdoor fitness permit rates in Kelowna.
“The idea is a first come, first serve kind of arrangement,” Hunter said in council chambers. “Open these spaces to the public… and use them accordingly without being managed as much through our system and see if it works. Kamloops has an unprecedented footprint of park space, there’s lots to use for different types of activities.”
