B.C. sees 908 new cases of COVID-19; 43 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has reached another concerning height with its COVID-19 case count.

In her prepared statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 908 new cases of the virus today, with 43 found in Interior Health.

The new cases swell the provincial total to 95,677 since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 22,764— Vancouver Coastal (up by 294)
  • 55,661 — Fraser Health (up by 438)
  • 3,096 — Island Health (up by 55)
  • 8,258 — Interior Health (up by 43)
  • 5,777 — Northern Health (up by 78)
  • 171 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 6,245 active cases in the province Friday (Mar. 26), up by 389 from Thursday. There are 294 people in hospital with 81 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 378 active cases of COVID-19, up by 16 from Thursday, with 15 people in hospital including four in critical care.

Three more people have died of COVID-19, raising the provincial death toll to 1,449. One of today’s deaths was recorded in Interior Health, lifting the regional death toll to 115.

Health officials have confirmed another 140 cases of variants of concern. There are now a total of 1,912 variant cases in B.C., with 258 still active.

A total of 9,996 people are under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 contact.

Another 87,866 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 92 per cent of all recorded cases.

The province has administered 637,856 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, including 101,156 within Interior Health.
