B.C. finds 716 more COVID-19 cases; Interior Health count up by 38

VICTORIA — B.C.’s COVID-19 case count has grown by 716 cases Wednesday (Mar. 24), including 38 cases found in Interior Health.

The figures are contained in an update prepared and distributed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The total of all cases found in B.C. has reached 93,969 since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 22,206 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 230)
  • 54,792 — Fraser Health (up by 383)
  • 2,996 — Island Health (up by 21)
  • 8,165 — Interior Health (up by 38)
  • 5,641 — Northern Health (up by 42)
  • 169 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

There are 5,573 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday, up by 164 from Tuesday. That includes 303 people in hospital and 85 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 343 active cases of the virus, unchanged from Tuesday, with 16 people in hospital and six in critical care.

Three more people have died of the virus, increasing B.C.’s death toll to 1,441. The Interior Health death toll remains at 114.

Health officials have confirmed 71 new cases of variants of concern, raising the total in B.C. to 1,581. One-hundred-forty-eight are still active.

Health officials are monitoring 9,696 people due to direct COVID-19 contact.

Another 86,857 people are considered fully recovered, or 92 per cent of all confirmed cases.

The province has now distributed 582,634 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to British Columbians.
