KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops has removed six of nine hotel properties along Columbia Street West from the City’s nuisance property list.

In a news release, the City says the properties that have been removed are:

  • Best Western Plus
  • Panorama Inn & Suites
  • Grandview Motel
  • Ramada by Wyndham
  • Columbia Motor Inn
  • Knights Inn

The properties were added to the list in December after a series of safety issues were identified. The three that remain on the registry are the Hospitality Inn, the Desert Inn and the Star Lodge.

The City says its Community Services (formerly bylaw) officers, in conjunction with local RCMP, have conducted six Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessments of Columbia St. West motel properties. The officers have worked with the motel owners on “security and aesthetics” of the properties in order to see them removed from the list.

Community Services Supervisor Kevin Beeton says the efforts have resulted in “a dramatic change to the upkeep and processes of the properties assessed, and as a result, service calls for the area have dropped significantly in a short period of time.”

Beeton notes his division will continue to work with the property owners and assess the remaining three properties.
