B.C. averages 493 new COVID-19 cases per day over the weekend, 31 per day in Interior Health

VICTORIA — The province found 1,478 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days, or an average of about 493 per day.

The Ministry of Health says there were 532 new cases Saturday (Feb. 27), 508 on Sunday and 438 Monday. It notes there have been 92 new cases within Interior Health since Friday.

With 1,478 new cases, the total in B.C. is now 80,672 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic arrived here, spread out as follows:

  • 18,619 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 327)
  • 47,436 — Fraser Health (up by 857)
  • 2,403 — Island Health (up by 88)
  • 7,435 — Interior Health (up by 92)
  • 4,625 — Northern Health (up by 114)
  • 160 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)
  • Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 42 of the new cases are variants of concern, bringing the total number of variant cases found in B.C. to 158.

There are 4,464 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Monday (Mar. 1), down by 201 from Friday. That includes 236 people who are in hospital and 65 in critical care.

Within Interior Health, there are 437 active cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 113 from Friday. IH has 18 people in hospital and five in critical care.

Eight more people have died of the virus, raising the B.C. death toll to 1,363. Two of the eight deaths took place in Interior Health, raising the regional death toll to 104.

The number of those under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 exposure has reached 8,210.

A total of 74,776 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 93 per cent of all known cases.
