Embattled Gill resigns from TRU Board of Governors

KAMLOOPS — Sukh Gill has tendered his resignation to the Thompson Rivers University Board of Governors after a damning report on his spending during his former term as CAO of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

The resignation was confirmed in an email to CFJC Today. “The Board of Governors thanks him for his service over the last two years,” said a spokesman for the school.

Gill was first appointed to the board almost exactly two years ago, on February 11, 2019.

Gill retired as the CAO of the TNRD amid controversy in 2020. It came after a Worksafe BC investigation into workplace bullying and harrassment at the TNRD corporate office.

Last week, Kamloops This Week published an in-depth look into Gill’s personal spending during his time as CAO. It showed more than $500,000 in spending on hundreds of items ranging from meals to a champagne room during his five-year term in office.

According to the TRU website, there are currently three vacancies around the Board of Governors table.
