KAMLOOPS — The Chief Administrative Officer for the Thompson Nicola Regional District has retired.

Sukh Gill had been with the TNRD for about two decades.

Board Chair Ken Gillis says Gill served as Chief Financial Officer before taking on the role of CAO for the past eight years.

“He was on holidays for the latter part of January, he came back and he was on leave for a short time and then he decided he was going to retire, he chose to retire,” Gillis said. “There’s not really much more I can say about that. I will say that it was originally announced as a resignation and that was my fault, that was just a mistake that I made when I sent the information to our communications people.”

Gillis is not saying why Gill was on leave prior to his retirement.

The search is now on for an interim CAO before someone can fill the position permanently.

“Even in terms of the interim CAO we’re going to be looking outside the TNRD,” Gillis said. “We do have our current CFO, Doug Rae, as the acting CAO, but he will not be applying, as I understand, for the position. So, we’ll be going outside to look for an interim and then I expect it will probably be three or four months before we’re able to go through the whole process of finding a permanent replacement for Mr. Gill.”
